Resumen
Introducción: Uno de los problemas más frecuentes y serios que enfrentan las personas mayores son las caídas, definidas como la consecuencia de cualquier acontecimiento que precipita al individuo al suelo en contra de su voluntad. El miedo a caer representa otro problema de salud significativo en este grupo etario. La percepción de apoyo social proporciona ventajas a nivel, físico, cognitivo, emocional, conductual y social. Objetivo: Examinar la relación entre el miedo a caer y el apoyo social percibido en personas mayores con antecedentes de caídas que vivan en la comunidad. Metodología: Estudio de enfoque cuantitativo, con un diseño descriptivo, correlacional, transversal, realizado en el centro comunitario para las personas adultas mayores del programa de Desarrollo Integral de la Familia del municipio de Torreón, Coahuila, México. La muestra fue de 129 participantes y el muestreo fue no probabilístico por conveniencia. Los instrumentos que se aplicaron a los participantes fueron, Cedula de Datos Sociodemográfico, la Escala Internacional de Eficacia en las Caídas y la Escala Multidimensional de Percepción de Apoyo Social. Resultados: el 66,7% fueron hombres, con una edad promedio de 71,72 años. El 42,6% presentan alto miedo a caerse y el 34,9% presenta moderado miedo a caerse y tan solo un 22,5% mencionan tener bajo miedo a volverse a caer. Conclusiones: Estos hallazgos destacan la necesidad de implementar estrategias integrales de atención geriátrica que consideren tanto los aspectos biomédicos como los sociales, con un enfoque preventivo y de promoción de la autonomía.
